Department Of Culture
After the establishment of the Union, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, sought to connect the present and future of the Emirate of Sharjah with its bright cultural and scientific past. He deservedly transformed it into a cultural capital and established in it cultural and intellectual traditions that were sought after by people from far and near. During the course of four decades, an enabling infrastructure for cultural development was formed in the emirate and in its capital in particular in the form of scientific facilities and edifices such as universities, museums, galleries, cultural and artistic preparation centers for children, clubs for youth and women, and service institutions, and in the form of local and Arab cultural and artistic events. Throughout the year
In order for Sharjah to assume this pioneering role and continue its noble mission from ancient times, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi issued Emiri Decree No. (20) on April 30, 1981 AD, stipulating the establishment of the “Cultural Department,” which was later known as the Department of Culture and Information. Until the name was changed to the Department of Culture pursuant to the Emiri Decree
No. 13/2017 AD, in order to enhance the cultural effort made and in order to develop and expand the base of creative cultural work to reach citizens and residents everywhere. Since its establishment, the Department has been keen to achieve this through Arab and Islamic cultural activities that affect and are influenced by human culture in its comprehensive and broad sense. Based on the slogan of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah
“Enough of the concrete revolution and let’s move on to building people.”
